School cafeteria changes

Fewer middle schools across the country are serving candy and soda in their cafeterias.

Between 2006 and 2008, the percentage of secondary schools that did not sell soda or fruit drinks that were not 100-percent juice jumped from 38- to 63-percent.

About the same number of schools took candy and high-fat salty snacks out of the lunch room.

Mississippi and Tennessee made the greatest strides in making their cafeterias healthier during the study period.
