New information shows the right diet may help prevent depression in some people.

The Mediterranean diet emphasizes fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and fish.

Spanish researchers found those who most closely adhered to the diet were least likely to develop depression over the 4-year study period.

They think the combination of omega-three fatty acids, flavonoids, antioxidants and other beneficial components of the diet is key.
