World Habitat Day

WATERLOO (KWWL) - A local group is joining the rest of the world in celebration.

It is World Habitat Day and Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity has been busy building ten homes for local families this year.

In 1985 the United Nations started World Habitat Day to bring attention to the plight of millions of people living in poverty housing. Iowa Heartland showed off some of their latest work.

"Working on someone else's home gave me that initiative to one day work on mine and now that I have that opportunity and I'm going to be a homeowner, it's that much more special to me and my family," said Kim Sanders, home recipient.

Habitat is accepting applications for next year. If you or someone you know is in need of an affordable home in Black Hawk, Bremer or Butler counties contact the habitat office at 319-235-9946.
