New fire command center

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The Iowa City Fire Department has a new command center to use during fires.

The department's new vehicle is a 2009 Ford E-350 cargo van with windows. The Command Van operates out of Fire Station 1 at 410 E. Washington.

The van contains a work station that is furnished with a desktop, storage cabinets, reference materials, and a laptop computer with a printer and internet access.

The van will be used as a command post on structure fires or other multiple-alarm incidents. It's also equipped with multiple radios in order for the Incident Commander to monitor different radio channels. The van was purchased and equipped for $38,000.
