Xavier defeat Wahlert 31-0


DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids Xavier visits Dubuque Wahlert. This rivalry is one that comes with bragging rights. It's a battle of the two Catholic schools.

Records are set aside for one game, but it's important to know that Xavier comes in 3-and-2, Wahlert 1-and-4. Wahlert looking for a win to push them towards a post season berth.

And it's homecoming. We pick it up in the first Xavier quarterback Joe Sayer with the quick screen pass to Ryan Sander. Wahlert defense take him down at the 10. A few plays later Xavier's Dylan Martin pushing the pile. Crossing the line, its 7-0 Saints.

Second quarter, Xavier again, Sayer hooks up with Sander on this 30 yard catch and run down he left side. 14-0 Saints.

Just before half Wahlert with a shot. Zach Brautigam with this long pass intended for Matt Burgmeier. But its picked off by the Saints. Seth Wagner with the pick.

Saints lead 14-0 at half.

Xavier with another change for six. Sayer with an incomplete pass they'll settle for a field goal. Wahlert fans still cheering on their team.

Xavier takes home the 31-0 win over Wahlert.

Wahlert still has a shot at the playoffs, they've gotta finished 3-1. With Iowa City West, Waterloo East and Cedar Rapids Kennedy left on the schedule they'll have to pull of three straight wins.
