WATERLOO (KWWL) - It's one of the oldest landmarks in Waterloo, standing tall for almost a century. Now the Black's building has a new tenant, The Roux Orleans Bourbon Street Grille and Bourre Lounge.

The project was made possible by the building owner, Nelson Properties and Barmuda CEO Darrin Beck.

Lori McConville, the Public Relations Director for Barmuda, says they have been able to expand to downtown Waterloo because of increased interest.

"People still have shown that they want to go out to eat. Family time is very important to them and we're coming into a new generation of people who grew up going out to eat," said McConville.

Some of the first customers to try the new restaurant were pleasantly surprised.

"Kudos to Barmuda for doing a real nice job renovating a historic downtown building.  It's very impressive," said customer Tom Kehe.

"We know by getting into the Black's building because it is a historic treasure in downtown Waterloo that would really help with our energy level and pull people to downtown again," said McConville.

The opening of the Roux Orleans was preceded by the Sky Event Center which is located on the eighth floor of the Black's building, formerly known as the Black's Gypsy Tea Room.

The space can be reserved for weddings, specials occasions, meetings and conferences.

The Sky Event Center has been fully renovated and opened September 19th.
