Intruder hits apartment resident with cinder block

AMES, Iowa (KWWL) - Police in Ames say an intruder who broke into an apartment there hit one of the residents in the head with a cinder block.

Witnesses told police two men entered the apartment early Sunday morning and started removing personal items when they were interrupted by the resident. Police said one of the intruders then picked the cinder block and struck the resident.

The men then fled the scene. Police said they were caught nearby by an Iowa State University police officer.

Police says 19-year-old Abram Magang and 26-year-old Jor Rual were charged with first-degree burglary. Rual was also charged with harassment of a public official.

The apartment resident who was hit in the head was treated for his lacerations and released from Mary Greely Medical Center.
