Two deputies injured during chase

CRAWFORD COUNTY, WI (KWWL) -- Two Sheriff's deputies were injured while pursuing a vehicle on Sunday.

Sheriff Deputies Russell Wittrig and Carl Kasparek were on patrol when they attempted to stop a pick-up truck for speeding. The truck turned down a road and the deputies pursued the truck for about two miles. While following the truck, Wittrig hit an embankment, the car rolled over and hit a tree, coming to rest on its top.

Both deputies were able to escape through the passenger window. Wittrig had minor injuries. Kasparek was taken to Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, then transported to La Crosse with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities are still looking for the pick-up involved in the chase. The truck is a dark color with raised suspension. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crawford County Sheriff's Department at 1-800-779-PAYS.
