Tipton animal shelter may be forced to close

Posted:
TIPTON (KWWL) - One of the few eastern Iowa "no kill" animal shelters is in danger of closing.  Volunteers at Friends of the Animals shelter in Tipton say funding could run out in the next two months.  Volunteers cite the poor economy and an inability to control the pet population as reasons why shelters are full.  If the Tipton shelter is forced to close, they say it will leave the animals no place to go.

"We are a no-kill shelter so they stay here until they can find a home. So if we have to close and some of these animals, we cannot find homes for, they will probably end up euthanized," said volunteer Laurie Wallace.

Friends of the Animals shelter runs strictly on volunteer donations.
