Waterloo celebrates downtown revitalization

WATERLOO (KWWL) More people downtown. That's what Sindee Kleckner, the Executive Director of Main Street Waterloo, wants.

Takin' it to the Street Celebrated the revitalization of downtown Waterloo.

"We want people to know we're getting closer to where we were 150 years ago when this was a booming metropolis and that's what we want again and it's getting there and we just want to encourage people to come out and be part of that," said Kleckner.

People could walk around downtown or even take a trolley to visit the businesses Waterloo has to offer.

"We're a huge downtown both in size and scale and diversity. There really is something for everyone. And those of us who work here everyday, we love it. We want other people to see why we like coming to work everyday. It's a good place to be. It's a fun place to be," said Kleckner.

Kleckner said while a streetscape project on Fourth Street last year to improve the road and sidewalks was disruptive, she hopes people can now say it was worth it. She hopes the streetscape improvements and other revitalization projects in the works help bring old and new visitors to downtown Waterloo.

"Have an experience here. Come downtown, have an experience and then share your experience. That's what we really want. If you haven't had an experience downtown in a while, maybe now's the time to do that," she said.
