HUDSON (KWWL) - The usually high-scoring Hudson Pirates found the going very tough Friday night in a hard fought 6-0 loss to Central Springs of Manly in Hudson.
It's a particularly important win for the Central Springs Panthers, who remain undefeated in District play. On the other hand, the loss puts a lot of pressure on the Pirates, who dropped their second straight 2A District 3 game and their third loss of the season.
Hudson suffered a big loss offensively on its first drive, when state champion sprinter, Tanner Wright, injured a leg on a running play. He left the field in obvious pain and did not return.
Central Springs relied on its Junior running back, Max Lund. Lund carried the Panther offense and also turned a screen pass into a big gainer to the Hudson one yard line. That set up the game's only touchdown; a one-yard quarterback sneak from Junior, Jesse Johnson.
Central Springs faces a big test next Friday, when the Panthers host previously undefeated Gilbert. The game is especially important, since Dike-New Hartford upset Gilbert, 20-17, Friday night, handing Gilbert its first loss of the season.
Hudson gets home field advantage again next week, as the Pirates play host to undefeated Osage. Osage shut out South Harkin Friday night, 39-0, to remain unbeaten this year.
