BELLE PLAINE (KWWL) - Unbeaten West Branch has been a scoring machine--putting up at an average of 44 points a game in its four victories.
Belle Plaine enters the game three and one, with it's only loss a 20-14 defeat to perennial power Pekin.
The game was played on a very soggy field with some Belle Plaine residents saying more the three inches fell over Thursday and Friday.
The wet field did not slow down number three Brian Crow for the Plainsman. He would basically control the entire first drive with getting five yards a carry, but the drive would stall on the West Branch Bears 18-yard line and two offensive plays later the Bears, number 20, Cole Kelly, the Senior would rumble and fight and scrap his way to pay dirt 76 yards for a touchdown.
The Plainsman tried to get their beat down, but the first quarter belonged to the Bears. West Branch would hand off to number 20, Cole Kelly, and he would take it down the middle for a 17-yard pickup. Then, number 44 Jayson Madsen plunges in for the score.
The Bears Quarterback, Travis Kaufman, tried to create some more yards and points but forces the ball and the Plainsman recover a wild pitch in great field position at the beginning of the 2nd Quarter.
The Plainsman would then hand off to their big bruiser one hundred eighty Brian Crow who would break tackles for a 17-yard gain.
Crow would finish off the drive with a touchdown plunge making it 14 to 7 West Branch.
But that's all the Plainsman could muster as they fall to the Bears 34 to 12.
