DUBUQUE (KWWL) - One of the biggest games of the week takes place Thursday in Dubuque. Second ranked Iowa City high pays a visit to 8th ranked Dubuque Hempstead.
Both teams enter the night a perfect 4-0, it was perhaps the biggest football in Dubuque in a decade. Before the game Hempstead and City High were the only undefeated teams in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Thursday's win could mean a 2009 Division Title And that's something Hempstead hasn't done since 2003 with a win over Linn Mar.
With the MVC title lingering, first drive of the game, City Highs AJ Derby with the hand off to Nick Reuter. He gains a few yards before he's stopped by the Mustang defense. A few plays later, Derby again this time with the option to Nick Beckman. He takes it in for a TD. City High up 7-0.
Still in the first quarter Derby hands off to ellis Jordan who plows down field. Perfect placement for the next play. Derby with the fake to Jordan, instead Derby runs this 47 yard keeper. Its 14-0 City High at half.
Second half action, City High with the ball, good defense from Hempstead, Jordan looses it. It's recovered by Mitch Berendes. Hempstead wouldn't score on this drive but they would get on the board with a touchdown from Dan Kunkel.
City high wins it 28 to 7
