Dubuque police officer reinstated

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Dubuque Police officer Kyle Cross has been reinstated after lying about a damaged tire.

In 2008 Cross was tired after he told his supervisor a tire on his squad car went flat.  Later, he admitted he lied and said he hit a curb and damaged the tire and rim.

In December, the Dubuque Civil Service Commission reversed Cross's termination to a six-day suspension. The city appealed the decision in July.

Dubuque County District Judge Michael Shubatt said, while Cross' lie was "undeniably wrong and serious" he should remain on the force.

This coming after his attorney argued that former Police Chief Kim Wadding's firing of Cross was too harsh.  Wadding fired Cross because his lying jeopardized his credibility.

Cross returned to the force on Tuesday.  City officials say they won't appeal Shubatt's ruling.
