Wisconsin Air Guard sends fighter jets to Iraq

WISCONSIN (KWWL) -- The 115th Fighter Wing launched 14 F-16 fighter jets on Tuesday morning for an Air Expeditionary Force rotation.  The 200 Airmen were deployed to Iraq last week.

The Airmen are expected to serve for two months in Iraq before the Iowa Air National Guard relieves them.

The 115th has been deployed before in December 2004 to Qatar, and June 2006 and June 2008 to Iraq.

According to the Guard:  "Their mission is to support ground forces in Iraq with close air support and other combat capabilities directed by the combatant commander."

The Air Guard says there are more than 3,200 Wisconsin soldiers on the ground in Iraq.
