Canoe Cedarloo brings paddlers to Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- About 25 people grabbed a paddle Saturday for the 29th annual Canoe Cedarloo.

About 15 canoes and kayaks raced 7.5 miles down the Cedar River. The race was a fundraiser planned by the Waterloo Jaycees.

According the Waterloo Jaycees, the event is the longest sanctioned canoe race in the state of Iowa.

"The participants continue to come out every year because a lot of them compete with each other in events through out the state of Iowa and upper Wisconsin...  so if they have an excuse to come out and play on the water, they're going to take advantage of it." Waterloo Jaycees Chair Mandy Lodge said.

The race was originally scheduled for June, but was postponed because the water was too high.
