CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Despite losing the very talented Josh Lenz who is now a return man for the Iowa State Cyclones, Dubuque Hempstead has been impressive in winning its first three games. The Mustangs facing their biggest test of the season against a Cedar Falls team that has won two in a row since losing its season opener to Cedar Rapids Washington.
After a Hempstead three and out on the opening series the Tigers Barkley Hill on the first play from scrimmage would juke a couple of defenders and scampers for 50 yards before being tripped up, but the drive stalls and a missed 44 yard field goal attempt nets zero points for the Tigers.
To the second quarter and Jake Farley and Hill miss read on the handoff ball is on the turf and Hempstead recovers and they are in business.
Very next play from scrimmage Mustang quarterback Matt Ehlers takes it 19 yards all the way down to the three.
Two plays later T.J. Houselog cashes it in and the Mustangs take a 7-0 lead.
After a three and out the Tigers were reeling but a big hit put on Dillon Hefel and he coughs it up -- James Harrington falls on the lose ball and the momentum was beginning to swing.
Six plays later, Hill takes it in from 8 yards out -- 103 yards in the first half for Hill but it was not enough as the Mustangs go onto win 14-10.
