Pumpkins benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

ATKINS (KWWL) - The names are ugly: leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma - but the faces are beautiful and real. In her work as a pediatric chaplain at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Rev. Noelle Andrew witnesses' children and adults battling blood cancer every day. Noelle and her husband Rev. Mike Andrew became determined not to sit on the sidelines any longer. It was time to help search for a cure. And they're asking local area residents to join the team.

In May, Noelle and Mike became members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, whose mission is to cure leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of both patients and families. Though neither are athletes, children and patients have deeply inspired the couple to challenge themselves. Along with fellow teammate Rev. Kate Giguere, the group will complete their first marathon in San Antonio, Texas on November 15th. But they don't run alone - Bloomsbury Farm has joined the race!

Karen and Dave Peterson of Bloomsbury Farm (rural Atkins) have designated Sunday, October 4th as Team in Training Day. In addition to hosting a special booth and collection centers for the Team, Bloomsbury is donating 10% of all proceeds from that day to the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers.

Bloomsbury is located at 3260 69th Street in Atkins or they can be found on the web at: www.bloomsburyfarm.com . Bloomsbury's Sunday hours are: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
