Free professional help available at CVSHR open house


CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - According to the National Employment Law Project, a record 50.7% of the unemployed fail to find work within six months of receiving benefits. The Cedar Valley Society of Human Resource Management id working with Iowa Workforce Development to offer a Job Seeker Open House on Monday, September 28, from 10-2pm.  The open house will take place at University Avenue location of IWD. 

The groups says with more than 6 million American's currently out of work and unemployment numbers climbing, they want to offer a bit of hope to people out of work.  The group will as the simple question: "how can I use my skills to help others in need?" 

Local human resource members will meet with job seekers one-on-one to discuss interview techniques or provide resume feedback. Several businesses will be there to showcase information on appropriate interviewing dress, effectively completing employment applications, networking and much more.

"We want to advance people's success in finding a job.  Our goal is to provide job seekers with professional advice of what employers are looking for and how to get THAT job.   Our members are here to help and provide direction," said Joan Smothers, President of CVSHR.

All job seekers are welcome regardless if they are unemployed and can come at any point during the four hour event.  No pre-registration is required and the event is free of charge.
