Former Farley Postmaster sentenced for embezzlement and bankruptcy fraud

FARLEY (KWWL) - A former Postmaster from Farley, Iowa, was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment today in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

Anita Juehring, from Farley, received the prison term after a March 30, 2009, guilty plea to one count of embezzlement of government property and one count of bankruptcy fraud. In a plea agreement, Juehring admitted that, while she was acting as the Postmaster of the Farley Post Office, she embezzled $43,735.02 from the Post Office. Juehring also admitted she made false statements to the United States Bankruptcy Court in a bankruptcy she filed. She claimed to list all of her assets for the court, but she failed to disclose more than $30,000 cash she had
withdrawn from her retirement account.

Juehring was fired from the Post Office in April 2007 when the embezzlement was discovered.

Juehring was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. A special assessment of $200 was imposed. In addition, the Court required Juering to pay restitution to the United States Postal Service in the amount of $22,258.71 (JUHERING has already made restitution payments in excess of $21,000 to the United States Postal Service). JUEHRING must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
