Cedar Rapids police chase ends with two arrests


Cedar Rapids (KWWL) -- On Sunday, September 13, 2009, at about 1:10 p.m., Cedar Rapids Police Officers were sent to Kirkwood Estates at 615 Miller Ave Dr SW, in response to a call of someone driving while under suspension.

When officers arrived, they saw the vehicle in question, a blue Honda Odyssey with a white male driver leaving the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but a short pursuit began.

The pursuit ended when the Honda Odyssey hit a silver 2006 Dodge Caravan, driven by Janet Ault, 54 of Cedar Rapids. The silver van rolled several times, but Ault was not injured. The driver of the Honda, Clayton Santee, then left the Honda Odyssey and ran from the scene. Officers chased Santee on foot along with a K9.

Four legs being faster than 2, the K9 was able to catch Santee who was taken into custody, transported to St Luke's for minor injures, then on to the Linn County Jail.

Santee was charged with Attempting to Elude, Running a Red Light, Failure to maintain control, Accident damage to vehicle, No Insurance, Driving While license under suspension, Interference with Official Acts,  and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.        

Also in the vehicle was Jessica Chamberlain of Palo. Chamberlain was a the passenger in the Honda. She fought with officers and was charged with Interference with Official Acts, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was taken to Linn County Jail.
