DALLAS, TX (KWWL) -- Nobel prize-winning agricultural scientist Norman Borlaug has passed away at his home in Dallas Saturday night.

An Iowa native, Borlaug was known as the father of the "green revolution" and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his contributions to high-yield crops in the developing world.

His green revolution was credited in helping to avert global famine during the second half of the 20th century.

President George Bush awarded Borlaug with the Congressional Gold Medal in July 2007.

Borlaug was 95.
