100 years of scouts

WATERLOO (KWWL) - It's been almost 100 years since the first boy scout received his badge.

From February 2009 through February 2010, 14 teams of dedicated scouts are visiting every boy scout council in the United States.

The teams are celebrating scouting's 100th anniversary by thanking local councils for their service. The Winnebago Council, in eastern Iowa, received a framed centennial portrait.

"We've always been able to capture the imagination of young people regardless of the decade, regardless of the era, through good times and bad, we've always been able to captivate them with adventure," said Todd Wordel, of Winnebago Council.

The year-long road journey will cover 4,500 miles while making over 350 stops.
