UNI Sweeps Western Illinois 3-0

The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team finished with a season-high .400 attack percentage on the way to a quick 3-0 win over Western Illinois Wednesday night in the McLeod Center. UNI (6-2) took the match by scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-10.

Michelle Burow led UNI with 12 kills, and Beth Discher and Bre Payton each finished with seven. Payton also led the Panthers with

34 assists and five blocks. Ellie Blankenship tallied 21 digs, passing head coach Bobbi Petersen to move into second place in the UNI record book with 1,471 career digs. Burow and Krista DeGeest each notched three blocks in the match, and Blankenship and Kali Karsten each finished with a pair of service aces.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
