Dubuque Art Center offers new art+KIDS classes

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - The Dubuque Art Center is beginning it's new art+KIDS youth classes.  They are instructed by two instructors and have a limit of 10 students or less.  art+KIDS focuses on growing creativity, encouraging exploration and problem solving, and having a lot of fun.

The first session of art+KIDS classes begin in October. There is a limited amount of financial aid available for qualifying families.

Below are classes available for registration.
Ages 3-5
Lil' Artists Creativity Program
Tuesdays 9:30-10:30 - Oct 6- Oct 27 (4 weeks)
OR Saturdays 12-1 pm - Oct 3 - Oct 24 (4 weeks)
Have fun exploring a variety of art materials with your child! This program is all about experiencing the joy of creative exploration with your child using paints, crayons, markers, colored pencils, paper, cardboard, and more. *Limit of 6 students per session - an adult (18+) MUST attend with your child.

Tuition - $20 members                 $60 non-members 


Ages 6-9
Book it! Print it!
Saturdays 8 am-9:45 - Oct 3 - Oct 31 (5 weeks)
Learn simple bookmaking techniques to create a one-of-a-kind journal.  Once the journals have been made students will learn basic printmaking techniques in order to begin filling it with amazing images.  This course is like getting a two for one deal. Instructed by Annie and Jess.

Tuition - $30 members                      $70 non-members 


Sculpt Your Own Puppets
Wednesdays 1:45-3:15 - Oct 7- Nov 11 (6 weeks)
In this six week course students will get to create their own puppets using a variety of materials.  Puppets will be as different as the students that make them.  And rumor has it that there may even be some puppet shows performed. Instructed by Amber and Jess.

Tuition - $30 members                     $70 non-members  


Paint it Up!
Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 - Oct 7- Nov 4  (5 weeks)
This course is all about using color and a variety of brushstrokes to express different moods!  We will get happy with oranges, calm with greens, excited with reds, mellow with blues, and silly with purples. Painting techniques will emphasize abstract methods and encourage students to explore their own feelings. Instructed by Jess, Amber, and Annie.

Tuition - $30 members                     $70 non-members  


Ages 10-13
Art Around the World
Saturdays 10 am-11:45 - Oct 3- Oct 24 (4 weeks)
Students will learn about the art of different cultures and use personal experiences to create their own versions.  This is a great class for kids that are curious about other parts of the world. Instructed by Jess and Annie.

Tuition - $30 members                          $70 non-members  


Handbuilding in Clay
Wednesdays 1:45-3:15 - Oct 7- Oct 28 (4 weeks)
Students will learn how to create works in clay using multiple techniques (score & slip, coil, pinch, modeling).    This class is focused on creating a lot of pieces in order to learn and practice solid techniques. Due to the focus on process rather than product, students should not expect to keep any of the pieces they create in this course.  Instructed by Annie and Jess.

Tuition - $35 members                          $75 non-members  



Basic Jewelry Techniques
Wednesdays 4:45-6:00 - Oct 7- Nov 4  (5 weeks)
What better way to wear your own artwork than to make a beautiful piece of jewelry? In this class students will be introduced to various jewelry making techniques: beading, wire work, riveting, and more.

Tuition - $30 members                      $70 non-members  


Beginning Guitar for Kids
Tuesdays 4:30-5:15 pm - September 8 to October 27 (8 weeks) 
This class is for intended for kids age 9-12 with little or no guitar experience.  Playing chords songs with basic accompaniments, learning the notes of the fingerboard and reading music will be taught in a relaxed, sharing environment.  A valuable introduction to our musical heritage, the language of music and the pleasure of playing with and for others.  Instructed by Dan Caraway - limit of 6 students per class.
Tuition - $80 members                       $120 non-members

Acoustic guitar in playable condition (1/2 or 3/4 size recommended - contact instructor with questions)
Electronic tuner
Course book with CD ("Children's Guitar Method Volume 1" by William Bay)
Folder for loose song sheets
Pencil
Recommended:
Music stand
Capo
Metronome
