Audit shows school misspent local option tax money

Posted:

RUSSELL (KWWL) - A state audit shows a southern Iowa school misspent $300,000 in local option sales tax revenue.
Iowa's state auditor says a review shows the Russell school district used the money to pay salaries and other bills, which isn't allowed under a local option tax.

The school ended up closing in July 2008 because of financial problems.
The state board of education ordered it shut down saying it could no longer provide a first-rate education.
