Hunter garners Big Ten honor

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- University of Iowa linebacker Jeremiha Hunter has been named the Big Ten's co-Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in Saturday's 17-16 win over Northern Iowa. The announcement was made tonight on the Big Ten Network's weekly recap show.

Hunter, a 6-2, 235-pound junior from York, PA, blocked UNI's second field goal attempt with one second remaining to preserve the Hawkeye victory. End Broderick Binns blocked the Northern Iowa field goal attempt on the previous play with seven seconds remaining. It's the first time in NCAA history a team has blocked field goals on successive plays in a game.

Hunter also had nine tackles and a pass breakup in the victory. It's the first time he has been honored with the league's weekly award. He shared the weekly special teams honor with Minnesota's Eric Ellestad.
