CENTER POINT (KWWL) -- Williamsburg used a smothering defense to shut down Coach Dan Burke's Center Point-Urbana Pointers 19-0 Friday night in a non-district clash in Center Point.
The 3-A Raiders took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, on a touchdown pass from quarterback , Tanner Blomme to Nick Timm. Neither team could light the scoreboard in the second quarter, and Williamsburg still led at half, 7-0.
In the third quarter, Coach Curt Richie's Williamsburg eleven took a 14-0 lead on a bruising touchdown run from fullback, Tyler Greiner. The 195-pound junior shook off several would-be tacklers on route to the end zone. The Williamsburg scoring drive got a big boost from the Raider's fleet senior I-back, 150-pound senior, Cord Slaymaker. Slaymaker's shifty, 49- yard run, deep into Pointer territory, set up the touchdown run by Greiner.
Williamsburg heads into District play at 1-1, after opening the season with a heartbreaking loss to Mid-Prairie-Wellman. The Raiders lost a 19-0 lead in that defeat. Williamsburg begins play in the tough 3-A District 5, on the road at Fairfield.
The Pointers of C-P-U are also 1-1, as they open 2-A play on the road in Stanwood, against North Cedar. C-P-U opened the season last week with a win over Benton Community.
Final score: Williamsburg 19, Center Point-Urbana 0
