Text for help in Kinnick

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Fans attending home Iowa football games this fall at Kinnick Stadium have a new way to report issues with their neighbors in the stands. For the first time, fans will be able to send a text message to UI officials requesting their assistance.

Those wishing to report issues should address the text to 97178, then type the word ALERT followed by the issue and the location. The text message is received by UI staffers, who will dispatch the appropriate response to the issue.

The service is provided by FanDriveMedia of Atlanta, GA, whose clientele includes the International Olympic Committee, as well as teams from Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the collegiate ranks.

"This is another great way for our guests to inform us of problems and issues we may not learn about otherwise," said Paula Jantz, UI associate athletics director. "Sometimes fans are hesitant to report the behavior of those sitting around them, but we hope this new technology will allow them to feel comfortable informing us of those types of problems."

The text messaging system will be in place for Iowa's season opener Saturday against Northern Iowa.
