Standoff ends in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA (AP)--A standoff with police at a house in Ottumwa is over after a man surrendered.

Authorities say Kim Allen Johnson was taken into custody after the 90-minute standoff on Wednesday.

The Wapello County sheriff's office says the standoff began when deputies went to Johnson's house with an arrest warrant. Authorities say Johnson slammed the door and retreated inside.

Chief Deputy Mark Miller says because of Johnson's past, which includes domestic violence and firearm charges, authorities called for backup and blocked off the area.

Police negotiated with Johnson and he surrendered.

No one was injured.
