White House: Obama may detail health plans soon

WASHINGTON (KWWL) - The White House says President Barack Obama is considering a speech to spell out more details of his goals for overhauling health care without waiting for Senate negotiators to finish their talks.

Presidential adviser David Axelrod said Tuesday that Obama is weighing a plan to be "more prescriptive" about what he feels Congress must do to change health care. Many activists have urged Obama to be more hands-on in helping shape legislation likely to dominate the House and Senate this fall.

Axelrod said Obama may deliver his speech before the Sept. 15 deadline that the White House has given Senate negotiators to draft a workable bipartisan bill.
