Illinois "Snack Tax"

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS (KWWL) - A new tax taking effect in Illinois hits candy, soft drinks and alcohol.
The new so-called "Snack Tax" will change the way the state collects taxes on the three items.

While the increase varies depending on the item... Many consumers will be left scratching their heads because of some of the new loopholes it creates.

Twizzlers, for example, have flour so it will still be taxed as a "food", while teas with artificial sweeteners will now be classified as soda.

The new tax hikes will help pay for the state's $331-billion-dollar infrastructure bill.
