Wildfire near LA heads north, threatens thousands

LOS ANGELES (KWWL) - A wildfire in the mountains above Los Angeles surged north overnight, forcing more evacuations and threatening some 10,000 homes.

Some residents of the small town of Acton are urged to evacuate as the 4-day-old blaze heads into the Antelope Valley.

To the south, mandatory evacuations remain in effect for neighborhoods in Altadena, Glendale, Pasadena, La Crescenta and Big Tujunga Canyon.

Fire officials say the fire has consumed more than 55 square miles of dry brush in the western portion of the Angeles National Forest. It is 5 percent contained.
