School district facing OSHA fines

IOWA CITY (KWWL)-- Iowa City schools are facing thousands of dollars in fines following federal inspections.

The Occupational Safety and Health Bureau issued $16,000 in fines after inspections this spring.

The fines were issued for several reasons including asbestos handling, electrical safety procedures and failure to power down a softball scoreboard while maintenance work was being done.

The district says it's fixed the problems but is contesting the fines and has asked the state to have them reduced.
