Hampton questionable for Hawkeye season opener

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The likelihood that Jewel Hampton will play in Iowa's season opener against UNI appears to be getting slimmer.  Hampton is not listed on the most recently released depth chart for the game against the Panthers.

Hampton injured his knee during workouts in July and reaggravated the injury in the last couple of weeks.  Right now paki O'Meara is listed as the Hawks #1 back, but at a recent Iowa scrimmage Coach Kirk Ferentz stated that the next two in line, Adam Robinson and Jeff Brinson, would also likely see the field if Hampton were unable to go.

"I don't know who's ahead of anybody at any position, really.  We've got a couple guys that are clearly number one," said Ferentz, "but at that position we'll evaluate over the next practices and see what happens.  If I was going to predict I'd say all 3 guys will be playing on opening day."
