Iowa judge orders $1M bond for slaying suspect

FORT DODGE (AP) -- A 50-year-old man charged with first-degree murder in the 2001 death of an Iowa woman has been ordered held on $1 million bond.

Mark Anthony Wilson appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court on Saturday after he was flown to Des Moines from Sacramento, Calif., late Friday. Authorities say Wilson surrendered to the California Highway Patrol on August 11 and told police he was wanted in Iowa.

He was held Saturday at the Webster County jail.

Wilson is charged in the death of 42-year-old mother Joni Manning of Clare, who was found dead July 8, 2001. Autopsy results found she died of head injuries. Police believed at the time that Wilson stole Manning's car and fled the area.

Wilson is charged with forgery and second-degree theft.
