SOLON (KWWL)- The only thing in question Friday night was whether or not the game would get underway from Solon.
Volunteers had the rain-soaked field ready just in time for opening kickoff, and the Spartans immediately put to rest any hope of a Mt. Vernon upset, as they went on to win in a blowout, 49-10.
Solon quarterback Wes Sleeper looked ready to pick up right where last year's signal caller Matt Morrison left off.
Sleeper hit Derrick Loveless on a 30 yard pass deep into Mustang territory on the Spartans first series. Sleeper would cap off the drive with a three yard keeper.
And thanks to reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, James Morris, the Spartans would never look back.
Morris eclipsed the 100 yard mark in the first half and rushed for three touchdowns; the final one coming on an elusive 23 yard run.
Brian Jedlica, added a 14 yard scamper to the endzone, and by halftime, the Spartans had broken the game wide open 35-7.
Solon rushed for 354 yards and seven touchdowns on the game. Morris, who is in his final year before heading to Iowa to play football, finished with 150 yards rushing and 3 scores.
The Spartans will travel to Sigourney-Keota next week.
