Palo cleans up after flash flooding

PALO (KWWL) - People are still pumping out water from their basements in Palo after a flash flood.  It's another blow for some just now moving back into their homes that were nearly wiped off the map during last June's flood.

Mark Malone spent the day in something of a daze.  His home flooded for the 2nd time in 2 years. The carpet was installed just last week.  He was in the process of moving back in.

"I know there's people that got a lot worse than I do so I shouldn't complain but how many times can it happen? It's a little disheartening, let's put it that way," said Malone.

Around town, pumps worked overtime.  Sandbags are still up around some homes.  A few streets still have standing water.  Many basements have a hose pumping water.  Some have more than a foot of water in them.  Back at the Malone home, the squishy carpet has absorbed the water.  The water line is just above the baseboards.  Many of the boxes from moving back in will be moved right back out while the home's cleaned up - again.

"Everything's gonna turn out all right. You know, it's my house so you can't just up and walk away. I'll have to try and fix it up again," said Malone.

Many people are taking this flood in stride.  They say since it's ground water and not river water that came up, it's not as toxic and easier to clean up.
