Coe Grad. Jackson to be ready for season

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (KWWL) AP -- Buffalo Bills running back and Coe College alumni, Fred Jackson was breathing much easier Wednesday knowing that his sprained left wrist shouldn't cause him to miss the start of the regular season.

Though his wrist and thumb were too sore to allow him to practice, Jackson said tests showed no serious injury a day after he took a hit on his left hand during a running play. What worried Jackson was that he was hit just above the thumb, aggravating an injury he sustained about a week ago.

"It was a little scary yesterday when I first did it, but I feel fine right now," Jackson said. "That's always a good thing when the X-rays come back negative, so I'm enthusiastic about that."

The Bills are counting on Jackson and veteran Dominic Rhodes to carry the load in the first three regular-season games while starter Marshawn Lynch is serving an NFL suspension.

Jackson hoped to test the injury in practice on Thursday to determine whether he'll be able to play in Buffalo's preseason game at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Bills close their preseason schedule hosting the Detroit Lions on Sept. 3, before opening the season at New England on Sept. 14.
