Cyclones Release Wrestling Schedule

Posted:

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State wrestling team and new head coach Kevin Jackson has released their schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 season.  The Cyclones are to host five home dual meets, as well as the Harold Nichols/Cyclone Open.

"It is a very strong schedule," Jackson said. "We are going to compete against the best teams in the United States.  Having the Iowa match at home gives everybody a boost before we work to peak in March."

The annual meeting with in-state rival Iowa is hosted by ISU at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at Hilton Coliseum.  Big 12 Conference opponents Missouri and Nebraska also take to the mat in February against Iowa State within the friendly confines of Hilton.

"The Big 12 and NCAA Championships are obviously high-level competitions and you can only be ready for them by wrestling the best," Jackson said.  "We are trying to do that with our schedule and how we are preparing in the wrestling room."

Following the Iowa dual, the Cyclones hit the road Dec. 19 for Cedar Falls and a date with Northern Iowa.  ISU will then look to improve on last season's team runners-up placing at the Midlands Championship, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. Dec. 29-30.

The Cyclones well head north to go head-to-head with Minnesota Jan. 3 and then take part in the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Jan.9-10 in Cedar Falls.

Returning home for the first time in over a month, Iowa State wrestles Illinois at Hilton Jan. 16.  ISU will then spend a weekend taking to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, Jan. 22 and 24 respectively.

ISU travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to dual Cornell Jan. 31.  Cornell placed fifth behind Iowa State's third-place showing at last season's NCAA Championships.

Iowa State travels to Arizona State for a dual meeting in Tempe, Ariz. Feb. 7.
