Jumpstart Deadlines Coming Up

In its weekly update, the Rebuild Iowa Office is reminding Iowa flood victims that some important deadlines are fast approaching to apply for Iowa's Jumpstart Housing money. Rebuild Iowa updates the latst efforts in a weekly press release, which is found in its entirety below.

Funds are still available to assist Iowans impacted by the 2008 floods and tornadoes, however people should not delay in submitting an application as deadlines are approaching as early as September 1 for some Jumpstart funding sources.

The Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) would like to remind disaster-affected Iowa homeowners that financial help is still available through the Jumpstart Housing Assistance Program. The program helps disaster-impacted homeowners make either a down payment on a replacement house, repair their current home, or maintain their mortgages while waiting for a potential buyout. For down payment assistance and housing rehabilitation assistance, the award is a receding loan that will be forgiven if the homeowner stays in the house for five years.

There also is the "Jumpstart Express" Emergency Repair option under the Jumpstart Housing Assistance Program. The application process for "Jumpstart Express" is the same as the one for Jumpstart Housing Assistance. However, the express option helps homeowners repair their current home without having to meet all of the requirements of the regular program. This award is also in the form of a receding loan which will be forgiven if the homeowner stays in the house for five years.

To find out more about Jumpstart program, visit the Rebuild Iowa Office Web site at www.rio.iowa.gov for local contact information, or call the Iowa Concern Hotline at (800) 447-1985.
