Dump truck v car sends one to hospital

FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) - One person was taken to the hospital after a car hit a dump truck in Fayette County Thursday.

It happened shortly before 4:00 pm at the intersection of R Ave and 100th St. An investigation determined that Mervin Albert Ungerer from Hawkeye was driving a dump truck owned by Zupke Sand and Gravel from Randalia northbound on R Ave.  The Fayette County Sheriff's office say he stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection.  They say he failed to see a westbound Dodge Neon driven by Jean Marie Spies from Westgate. The westbound vehicle hit the dump truck on the passenger side. The car was considered a total loss while the truck did not receive any damage.

Spies was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for non life threatening injuries. Mervin was not injured.
