UPDATE: Favre signs with Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KWWL/KTTC) - The Minnesota Vikings Web site confirms Brett Favre has officially become a Viking.

"We believe adding a player such as Brett Favre to our mix will be a strong positive for this football team," said Head Coach Brad Childress.

Details of the contract were not released, but ESPN is reporting the deal is for between $10 million and $12 million.

Favre landed in St. Paul around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.  He shook hands with the grounds crew and then got into an SUV and headed to Winter Park.

When he arrived at Winter Park, hundreds of fans were lined up waiting to catch a glimpse. Some fans even ran beside the SUV waving and snapping photos.

Coach Brad Childress confirmed in an e-mail to the Associated Press Tuesday morning that the veteran quarterback was traveling from Mississippi to meet with the team.

Asked if the plan was to sign Favre on Tuesday, Childress replied: "In a perfect world."

Favre, a longtime star in Green Bay, came out of retirement last season to play for the Jets. He retired again, only to then entertain the idea of joining the Vikings. Last month, Childress said the quarterback would stay retired.
