Faculty moves into new High School in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Another school year brings more changes to the Aplington-Parkersburg School District.

The high school was destroyed by an EF-5 tornado May 25, 2008.  Since then, the community has worked to rebuild.

Monday, students, faculty and staff began moving in to the new facility.  Furniture was brought in Friday.  Other supplies are coming from the Aplington-Parkersburg Middle School, in Aplington, which was the temporary home for the high school.

Because there were so many volunteers, moving in took little time.  School officials say they are delighted by how quickly this school has come together.

"Today to say I'm impressed would be an understatement. I'm just amazed by the effort by the construction company to good will we have found from our neighbors helping us out, so yes I'm amazed, pleased and we're right on track," AP Superintendent Jon Thompson said.

The high school will not be completed when school starts Monday.  In the next couple of months, crews will finish the auditorium and the new gymnasium.

Watch the KWWL news at 5:00 Monday for an expanded report of the move.
