Crew Hits Jesup Gas Line--No Explosion

A construction crew accidentally struck a natural gas pipeline in Jesup Saturday morning, but there was no explosion, according to several callers to the KWWL-TV Newsroom.

Official details are not yet available, but the callers to the KWWL-TV Newsroom said the gas line was still leaking and some residents were being asked to leave their homes as a precaution, until the line can be repaired.

The potential for an explosion always exisits in a natural gas leak, so Jesup officials have called for mutual aid from other law enforcement agencies and are taking no chances. They have asked some Jesup residents to evacuate the area until the leak is stopped.

Since there was no explosion, and unless there are some unusual circumstances involved in the gas line rupture, the repairs should be fairly routine and likely, would not take more than a few hours.
