Cyclones and Panthers Picked Third in Their Leagues

The Iowa State volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the Big 12 in a vote of the league's head coaches. For the Cyclones, who were picked to finish behind Texas and Nebraska, it is the highest preseason pick in school history.

The Cyclones went 22-13 overall last season and tied with Texas A&M for fourth in the Big 12 with an 11-9 record. ISU advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships and returns all but one starter from that squad, including All-Americans Victoria Henson, Kaylee Manns and Ashley Mass. Henson, Manns and Mass were named to the preseason all-league team.

The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team is picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference, the league announced Thursday. Senior outside hitter Shannon Aschoff was named to the preseason all-conference team. Voting is done by the league's 10 coaches.

UNI is coming off a 25-9 season where it earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the team's third consecutive trip and ninth trip in the last 11 seasons. The Panthers return four starters and their libero from that squad.
