New high school plans in jeopardy

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The Iowa City school district fears it won't have enough money to open a third high school.

At Tuesday night's school board meeting, district officials said the current financial situation may not allow for the new high school, likely to be located in North Liberty.  It's slated to open in 2014.

But, Superintendent Lane Plugge told the Iowa City Press Citizen that it's all based on assumptions and assumptions can change in the next five years.

Currently there's growing enrollment in the city's two existing high schools and concerns of overcrowding.
