Dead dogs found in Iowa lake

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids police say they have found the owner of four dogs who were found dead in a city lake.

The dogs -- at least two puppies and two older dogs -- were found by a passer-by wrapped in plastic bags on Monday along the shore of Cedar Lake.

Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says it appears the dogs died before they were wrapped in the plastic and dumped in the lake. She says there were no obvious signs of injury to the dogs.

Police say the dogs appeared to be a boxer, possibly two pit bull terriers and one unknown breed.

Hamblin says no tags were on the dogs but that tips to police led to the owner.

Hamblin says the owner told investigators the dogs died of illnesses and he disposed of them in the lake.

She says no charges will be filed.
