WATERLOO (KWWL) -- It's hard to imagine your child could be the victim of a sexual assault, but you should be knowledgeable about the signs.

-- seems distant
-- sudden change in eating habits
-- sudden mood swings -- rage, fear, insecurity or withdrawal
-- new or unusual fear of certain people or places
-- talks about or refuses to talk about a new older friend
-- leaves "clues" that seem to provoke discussion about sex
-- exhibits adult-like sexual behaviors, language and knowledge

If you believe your child may be the victim of sexual assault, call the Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline at 1-800-284-7821.
