Did you see that mansion rolling down the street?

TIPTON (KWWL) - House movers relocated a 125-year-old brick mansion near Tipton Monday. The 400-ton, four-bedroom massive brick "Buchanan House" located at 836 Garfield in Mechanicsville, Iowa was moved a few miles away to the 700 block of Green Road by Jeremy Patterson Structural Movers of Washington, Iowa.

The route took the house through the unincorporated town of Buchanan, which was founded by the man who built the historic mansion, Alexander Buchanan.

A film crew from The Learning Channel documented the move. The new owners, Randy and Linda Weaver of Tipton, want to start a winery at the new location and may use the house as a bed and breakfast.

The load was about 50 feet wide and 80 feet long. Roads had to be widened to get the house through. The trip started around 8:30 am and is expected to be finished by dusk. The house is being moved about three-quarters of a mile per hour.
